Mom’s Little Child Couldn’t Sleep!

Mom and daughter Ria were very excited. The next day the little six-year-old would have her children’s ballet performance. Ria and her class had trained for several weeks for this performance. Ria is a very lively intelligent girl. She loves her kindergarten class and is a great student. But more than anything else she looks forward to her ballet class. Therefore, this children’s performance was anticipated with great expectation for many weeks.

So excited, how could Ria go to sleep?
The evening before the great day time came to go to bed. Mom talked with Ria and told her how important a good night sleep would be for her. Without that sleep she could not be at her best the next day. Ria told her mom she knew that and she would sleep extra well.

Relaxing music and talk therapy.
But sleep would not come! Mom quietly talked to her again to help her settle down. Then she put on some quiet sleeping music which always worked before. Still little Ria just could not fall asleep. Mom talked some more to her. She told her how the restful night would help her with her performance. They talked some more; you could call it “talk therapy”. To no avail.

Under stress we forget.
Now this mom had been to several SciStress workshops. She had used the techniques frequently. She was an expert. She had taught the techniques to her daughter and they had used them together many times. This evening not getting Ria to sleep had created a little bit of a stressful situation for them both. One of the most typical stress reactions is that we forget and we don’t easily see alternatives for action. Why does that happen? The reason is that in stress mode our autonomic nervous system immediately pulls our blood from our thinking brain. There is less oxygen available to think, remember, and make good decisions. This is very natural yet also very unfortunate. It is a very good reason to use our fast-working and effective stress reduction method.

Sound sleep for a great performance.
Becoming a little bit worried about Ria not sleeping, mom finally remembered SciStress tapping techniques. And she started gently using them on little Ria who was still quite hyped up. Ria immediately began to relax. Her body melted into bed and pillows. Her eyelids slowly dropped. Her face had a quiet smile. In less than five minutes the little girl was fast asleep. The next day, full of energy Ria did a great job performing at the children’s ballet.

By the way, Judy and I both use the technique whenever we have trouble sleeping. It works perfectly for adults too. Many of our clients confirm this. The stress hormone cortisol stays in the blood stream longer. Therefore, it is often the reason we can’t get to sleep or wake up frequently. Reducing the stress response in our brain quickly calms the nerves and no more need to produce cortisol.

Sleep better and live longer!

Once There Was An Itsy-Bitsy Spider

You haven’t heard from us in a while. Sorry but we both had a lot to handle and had to cut back. You could say over-stressed stress experts! We’ll make a real effort now to be back and give you useful things to think about.

Little spiders - big problem
There is this fun little childhood song about the itsy-bitsy spider. But for
some people itsy-bitsy spiders are not a lot of fun! A lot of people don’t like them, some hate them, and a few people are seriously terrified by them. Those fearful emotions are actually stress reactions. As strange as it may sound in the case of a small animal like a spider, that stress is a direct result of the old brain’s somewhat misdirected survival instinct.

A trainee of mine had learned the SciStress techniques a few months ago. We’ll call her Ellie. Ellie just told me the following story. She had visited a niece of hers. In the middle of the conversation her niece suddenly screamed and ran out of the room. Ellie followed her to find out what was going on. The niece had seen a spider a few feet away on the wall. Ellie went back and was able to kill the little spider and send it into spider heaven.

Impossible to solve her fear of spiders
She asked her niece whether she wanted to get rid of her panicky fear of spiders. Sure, the niece said, that would be nice but pretty much impossible! She just felt too terrified by spiders.

Ellie explained to her about SciStress she had learned and practiced during the past few months. Her niece was willing to try. In a bit less than 20 minutes of having her niece use the SciStress techniques she said all her fear was gone. They were both amazed how fast the techniques worked in such an extreme case. How could they test whether the result was true? What better way than to look for another spider.

After 20 minutes she could handle the spider
They couldn’t find a live one
but the dead one was still in the trash. Her niece said she’d never touched even a dead spider. But now she felt okay and took the dead spider out of the trash. She felt comfortable handling and inspecting it before tossing it back in the garbage. The niece was still amazed. She could have never done this before.

Learn this technique yourself and practice it every day
T
his is a great story. I wasn’t too surprised. We’ve worked with many fears like this, fears of dogs and snakes, fear of insects, even fear of flying, etc. SciStress can be a very powerful tool to use for yourself and make your life easier. Check out our book, it explains why and how the techniques work. Then it gives you a thorough introduction to these amazing self-help techniques.
