Once There Was An Itsy-Bitsy Spider

You haven’t heard from us in a while. Sorry but we both had a lot to handle and had to cut back. You could say over-stressed stress experts! We’ll make a real effort now to be back and give you useful things to think about.

Little spiders - big problem
There is this fun little childhood song about the itsy-bitsy spider. But for
some people itsy-bitsy spiders are not a lot of fun! A lot of people don’t like them, some hate them, and a few people are seriously terrified by them. Those fearful emotions are actually stress reactions. As strange as it may sound in the case of a small animal like a spider, that stress is a direct result of the old brain’s somewhat misdirected survival instinct.

A trainee of mine had learned the SciStress techniques a few months ago. We’ll call her Ellie. Ellie just told me the following story. She had visited a niece of hers. In the middle of the conversation her niece suddenly screamed and ran out of the room. Ellie followed her to find out what was going on. The niece had seen a spider a few feet away on the wall. Ellie went back and was able to kill the little spider and send it into spider heaven.

Impossible to solve her fear of spiders
She asked her niece whether she wanted to get rid of her panicky fear of spiders. Sure, the niece said, that would be nice but pretty much impossible! She just felt too terrified by spiders.

Ellie explained to her about SciStress she had learned and practiced during the past few months. Her niece was willing to try. In a bit less than 20 minutes of having her niece use the SciStress techniques she said all her fear was gone. They were both amazed how fast the techniques worked in such an extreme case. How could they test whether the result was true? What better way than to look for another spider.

After 20 minutes she could handle the spider
They couldn’t find a live one
but the dead one was still in the trash. Her niece said she’d never touched even a dead spider. But now she felt okay and took the dead spider out of the trash. She felt comfortable handling and inspecting it before tossing it back in the garbage. The niece was still amazed. She could have never done this before.

Learn this technique yourself and practice it every day
T
his is a great story. I wasn’t too surprised. We’ve worked with many fears like this, fears of dogs and snakes, fear of insects, even fear of flying, etc. SciStress can be a very powerful tool to use for yourself and make your life easier. Check out our book, it explains why and how the techniques work. Then it gives you a thorough introduction to these amazing self-help techniques.
